World Book Day - 6th March

Helen Marston
Mar 6, 2008

World Book Day is an annual celebration of books and reading in the UK where thousands of schools arrange special activities to mark the day.

Vernon Primary School in Poynton decided to mark the occasion by allocating each year group with an author for the day.  For example, Year 1 children chose The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson, Year 2 chose The Twits by Roald Dahl and Year 6 chose JK Rowling’s Harry Potter. The children were involved with a series of inspiring activities that were carefully planned to capture their imaginations.

Joanne Glimmerveen, Head at the school, said “World Book Day raises the profile of reading and celebrates reading for pleasure and purpose.”

Mrs Glimmerveen added “The day was brought to life by the children and teachers dressing up in the characters of their year groups chosen book.  The children had a wonderful day and thoroughly enjoyed seeing their teachers dressed up!”

Year 4 pupils focused on Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
