Stockport Rugby Club’s Under 9 squad have enjoyed a superbly successful season. This is the first season of contact rugby for the squad and they have met the challenge head on. The season began with the team winning the Stockport Festival in September and culminated last week in winning the Cheshire Cup, which is the highest accolade the team could get! On the way to this fantastic win, the squad also won the Shield at the Huddersfield Festival along with Runner’s Up medals at the Macclesfield Festival.
The team have worked incredibly hard, including through some inclement conditions every Sunday morning, supported by fantastic coaches and parents to gain this success. Every player is valued and included in training, matches and tournaments as we operate an all inclusive policy at this age to encourage the children into the sport. Enjoyment is the key focus and everyone has had a great season including the new team members we welcomed this year. The parental support is second to none including sponsorship this year for tour shirts and kit bags.
We head off on tour to Caernarfon next week to celebrate the end of our successful season. We hope to continue and build on this year’s brilliant achievements which we believe will be possible as the team are highly committed and dedicated. We welcome any new players for September who would like to share in the successful squad that the Under 9’s are becoming.
