Terry Waite speaks up on behalf of East Cheshire Hospice
Terry Waite CBE has returned to his roots to support a local charity. East Cheshire Hospice, based in Macclesfield, is holding “An Evening With Terry Waite” on Thursday, 12th March at The Tytherington Club. This is in support of the Caring for our Future Capital Appeal which is being run by the hospice and of which Mr. Waite has become a patron, along with Ryan Giggs, Lord Thomas of Macclesfield and Sir Nicholas Winterton.
Born in Bollington, Terry Waite has traveled the world as a humanitarian, hostage negotiator and author. He himself was taken captive after visiting Lebanon to negotiate the release of Western hostages. He remained in captivity for 1,763 days, the first four years of which were spent in total solitary confinement.
Since his release in 1991, Mr. Waite has been in constant demand as a lecturer, writer and broadcaster and has appeared worldwide in front of large audiences whilst also providing words of support to people in social work, education, religious groups and hospices.
Said Mr. Waite: “I am proud to be associated with East Cheshire Hospice and the team of people who have given themselves to that work. I hope you will join me in supporting this appeal.”
“When Mr. Waite visited the hospice recently and offered to speak for us at an event we were so delighted. To have the support of a worldwide humanitarian and keynote speaker can only help to raise our profile and subsequently the funds needed to complete our redevelopment,” said Major Relationships Manager, Fiona Reed. “We are very grateful indeed to Mr. Waite and feel sure that many people will be keen to hear his talk. We very much hope the event will be a sell out.”

2. East Cheshire Hospice cares for adults suffering from life-limiting illnesses from which there is no cure. We care for the whole person, aiming to meet all needs, whether they are medical, emotional or spiritual or around the challenges of daily-living. We support families and carers throughout what is often a difficult period.
Supported by over four hundred volunteers, East Cheshire Hospice is based in Macclesfield and cares for people throughout East Cheshire and parts of North Derbyshire.
Our mission is to make every day count for our patients and those important to them.
Staffed by specialist nurses, doctors and support staff, we have a 15 bed in-patient unit where patients can stay for end of life care, rehabilitation, symptom control or respite care. The unit is open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. We have a busy Day Care Centre which helps local people continue to live independently at home.
A registered charity, all our services are completely free. However, the Hospice receives less than 23% of its costs from government and so has to fundraise over £5,500 every single day of the year simply to maintain the current provision.
