PROBLEM DOGS
Do you have a ‘problem dog?’ Well, if you can’t live with some of your dog’s behaviour or habits, you have a ‘problem dog.’
It will be comforting to know that only THREE factors contribute to your dog’s bad behaviour: Genetics, Training & Environment and while we can do little about the first there’s an awful lot we can do about the other two.
Everything starts in the home and before we can analyse your dog’s behaviour we must review his/her environment and daily routine. There is absolutely no point trying to solve problems without first analysing how they began. If your dog refuses to come when called you need to understand why. If he/she is dislikes other dogs or plays too rough you must know the part you are playing in reinforcing these habits.
House training is almost totally environment related and should never be a problem but for many owners it is. Jumping up at visitors and demanding attention often starts in the home environment. Pulling on the lead is always a product of poor communication and can be easily resolved by implementing the correct routine.
Our Home Assessment involves an extensive two-hour review of your dog’s environment and lifestyle. We’ll take him/her for a walk to assess behaviour both inside and outside the home and leave you with a written programme of notes you can follow to improve your dog’s behaviour.
There is no dog trainer on earth that can advise you on a course of action without observing your dog in his day-to-day environment. This is the most important factor in his pattern of behaviour. It’s where all good and bad habits begin.
While we are happy to listen to your problem over the telephone, it’s impossible to give worthwhile advice without observing your dog and his/her environment. Just like people dogs are all individuals, we work with different dogs every day, 365 days a year and no two are the same.
