POYNTON : Community News : Poynton Fire Cadets

Poynton Fire Cadets

FF Adam Lawson
Oct 31, 2006

Cheshire Fire Service Cadets started at Poynton Fire Station on 1st April 1992 - the first unit in Cheshire! It consists of a group of 10-15 young people, 5 volunteer instructors, (all Firefighters) and one female instructor. They also have their own Land Rover appliance. Since those early years, the trend has spread to 20 units in Cheshire.

The Cadets train in all aspects of fire fighting at the Fire Station every Wednesday between 1900 - 2130. Up to now, a number of cadets have progressed to join the Fire Service, either as wholetime firefighters or Retained Firefighters at Poynton. Three of the current five operational instructors at Poynton started off as Cadets at the station!

Your local Fire Cadets are working hard fundraising for the Ghana Outlook Charity. Four Fire Cadets from Poynton are flying out to Ghana next summer to help with the building of a new school.

Crew Manager Cadet David Good, and Fire Cadets Dale Starkie, Jo Pate and Joy Atherton need to raise £8000 between them to enable them to make the journey, and supply tools and equipment whilst they are out there.

Although we managed plenty of fundraising over the summer at the school fates and Poynton Show, WE STILL NEED MORE HELP! Look out for the Cadets and their Land Rover out and about in the Village. We will be in attendance at the Bonfire at Poynton Pool and are organising a car wash at the Fire Station for a Saturday, date to be confirmed.

If anyone is interested to know more about the Cadets, or can offer any help with fundraising or sponsorship, please contact FF Adam Lawson at the Fire Station, 01625 877295.
