A planning application will be submitted shortly for a new Tesco supermarket on the former Brookfield Motors site and disused cinema on London Road South in Poynton.
The image below shows the Poynton site which Tesco plan to develop into a brand new store. Tesco plan to build on the former Brookfield Motors car showroom, the vacant former cinema, cafe/restaurant and the existing Texaco petrol station on London Road South.
Tesco state that a new supermarket in Poynton would sell a full range of products including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, dish and dairy products, frozen and convenience foods, beers, wines and spirits. All supported by separate delicatessen and bakery counters.

Tesco have based their plans on five key points that they believe will benefit Poynton as a thriving community.
1. "At present, approximately 70% of residents d their weekly food shop in supermarkets in other towns. This is a major loss of trade for the town. A new Tesco supermarket would keep more local people shopping in Poynton, using its shops and boosting the local economy".
2. "A new store will employ around 150 people from the local area, offering both full and part-time positions, along with flexible working patterns for people of all ages and training".
3. "Our designs for a new supermarket would create a pleasant shopping experience within a mordern building. The new supermarket would be up to 50% greener than exisiting Tesco stores, making more use of natural light and renewable energy".
4. "A new supermarket would improve the appearance of this part of the district centre, creating a more attractive shopping environment".
5. "A new supermarket would have car parking for more than 100 cars, including places for disabled people and parent and child parking bays. The car park will also help ensure that there is sufficient car aprking to support the district centre".
