The John Lewis Partnership has donated £1000 to Bramhall based charity Beacon Counselling. Founded back in 1984 Beacon exists to make a difference to the lives of people experiencing mild to moderate mental health issues. These can range from bereavement and loss, and relationship issues to depression and trauma.
The local charity carried out a training needs analysis for all volunteer counsellors. The results were then collated and the most needed training areas were prioritised. A training programme was devised for specialist areas of counselling, such as abuse, drug and alcohol issues for young people, working with gender and sexuality issues, and risk assessment. The new courses will allow Beacon to extend and enhance the counselling it can offer both to adults and young people.
James Harper Beacon's Manager said, "I am overjoyed that the John Lewis Partnership has given us a £1000 grant for the training programme. It will really make a difference to the volunteer counsellors and enable us to offer a fuller service".
