Tesco have submitted a planning application to Macclesfield Borough Council which is now going through the validation process to ensure that the applicant has submitted the plans correctly, has provided all the supporting documentation, statements and evidence and completed all of the forms correctly.
Tesco state that a new supermarket in Poynton would sell a full range of products including fresh fruit and vegetables, meat, dish and dairy products, frozen and convenience foods, beers, wines and spirits. All supported by separate delicatessen and bakery counters. Tesco argue that a store in Poynton would benefit the thriving commuinity and allow the 70% of local residents who shop outside Poynton to stay locally.
Poynton Against Tesco (PAT) are a locally formed group who represent concerned residents and retailers in Poynton over the New Tesco. There concerns are for traffic, local businesess, property values and the loss of Poynton as a unique village. PAT argues that the development of a Tesco store in the middle of Poynton will ruin Poynton's individual identity that we, the residents, have worked hard to retain.
