Why? : To raise funds for Cancer Research UK. To keep funding research scientists at the Paterson Institute in Manchester and to support clinical trials of cancer drugs at Christies and other local hospitals. To support our scientists and nurses in their support of cancer patients as they work tirelessly in our community.
This family event is a Relay! Teams walk in Relay around the main rugby pitch for the whole 24 hours pausing only for the moving Candle of Hope Ceremony.
Relay is truly a Community event bringing families, friends, work colleagues, cancer survivors, scientists and nurses together for one purpose ...one day ... one night... one reason...
All the Committee members have very personal reasons for their involvement in Relay For Life Stockport. I am Bruce, Event Chair and I am dedicating my time this year because I want to remember my nan and aunt who were taken by cancer and my step-dad who has survived colon cancer. Our Committee is seeking more members, particularly for Logistics, Survivorship and Candle of Hope. We need YOU, Bramhall citizens to support us.
Firstly, we need teams. A Relay team is made up of between 10-15 members and if signed up must have at least one team member walking around the pitch at any given time in the 24 hrs. Teams camp overnight at the venue.
Secondly, we need cancer survivors. If you know someone, or indeed, if you are someone who is a cancer survivor we want you to open our Relay and we want to pamper you. Cancer Survivors are our event VIPs!
Thirdly, if you have lost anyone dear to you to cancer, why not decorate and dedicate a candle bag. This will be lit in the evening at a moving Candle of Hope Ceremony.
Finally, we need members of the Community to attend on the day and to spend their money on site. Come along to see what the fuss is about.
