Not even the cold weather and a late rainy downpour could dampen the spirits of over 50 local school chidren as they played hockey on the astroturf at Bramhall Recreation Centre recently.
The Hockey Festival was jointly organised by Bramhall Hockey Club and the sports development team from Stockport Borough Council. The aim was to introduce children from local primary Schools to the olympic sport of hockey.
The hockey club made short presentations at Ladybrook, Moss Hey, Pownall Green and Nevill Road junior schools to publicise the event. The effort was rewarded with a bumper turnout way beyond expectation.
The enthusiastic kids watched by a crowd of supportive parents were shown some basic skills and then played small fun games. The winning team received medals and all the children were given souvenir pens in the shape of hockey sticks.
Bramhall Hockey Club run sessions for children every Sunday between 2.15pm and 3.30pm. All children are welcome and parents are invited to take part if they wish. Qualified coaches teach the children and its just £2 per session to take part. Further details from Kelvin Briggs on 07825213205
