New Summer Syllabus for walks with Stockport Field Club, including Evening Walks

Gail Horn
Apr 15, 2008

Welcome to the Stockport Field Club’s new Summer Syllabus for 2008. We have EVENING WALKS on the syllabus for the first time ever so I’ll tell you about them first.

27th May, Tuesday, meet by Stockport Grammar School (Ex Davenport Theatre) at 6.30 p.m. and bring a bus pass if you have one.  Amy will lead us through the Ladybrook Valley for 3 to 4 miles.

10th June, Tuesday, meet at Nelson Pit Visitor Centre on Middlewood Way at 7.00 p.m. and Pauline & Val will lead us astray for about 3 miles and we may even finish up in the Boars Head.

7th August, Thursday, meet at 6.45 p.m. at the bus station (by booking office) and Margaret will take us down the Mersey and into Abney Hall grounds.  Bring your binoculars for this one, and we will be coming back by bus.

Remember, anyone can join us on these walks, so how about giving it a try.

We start the season with Moyra taking us to Taxal for a 7 mile moderate on Saturday 3rd May and then because we are on our hols is Scarborough there is nothing till the 22nd May (Thursday) when we have a PUB LUNCH and a BIKE RIDE and a 5 Mile WALK all at the same time.

So bike owners and riders can meet us at the Railway Pub at Rose Hill Marple in time to rumble by 10.30 a.m. Same for walkers if you want to go straight there, or you can meet up at the bus station for the 10.00 bus to Marple. Walkers will walk about 5 miles and cyclists will cycle along the Middlewood Way till its time to turn round and be back in time for lunch at the Railway.

.
Sunday 25th May it’s another ‘bring your binoculars’ day and we go to Pennington Flash for a 4-mile easy walk.

Then on Saturday 31st May it gets serious and we do an 8-½ mile walk at Mossley.

This is as far as I go at the minute as my plane leaves shortly and I don’t want to miss it as it spoils the holiday a bit.  But one or two things we have to look forward to are a Well Dressing at Bakewell on Saturday 28th June, the Coffee Morning on Thursday 3rd July, Coach outing on Saturday 9th August and a 3 night break at Chester in September.

Remember you can get extra information from Dorothy on 480 5976 and Gail on 480 8479.  I’ll update the rest of the syllabus when my hols are over
