Over the weekend on 25th and 26 th October, many experienced fell runners, orienteers and outdoor enthusiasts took part in a well organised mountain marathon in the Lake District. This event, the OMM, has been running for many years and has an excellent record on safety.
There is no escaping the fact that the weather was bad. However, the reporting by the BBC was in the opinion of those who took part inaccurate and badly researched and led to many friends and relatives worrying unnecessarily. The true facts are starting to emerge now.
On a positive note, many competitors have made significant contributions to the mountain rescue teams who are a valuable service to ALL who visit the hills.
