Manchester & District Orienteering Club has members in South Manchester, Stockport, Macclesfield and Congleton, with the largest concentration being around the Hazel Grove/Bramhall area.
We have a wide range of ages and abilities, from 5-90 years and from beginners to members of the national junior team. Anyone can orienteer.
Orienteering is a sport that can be enjoyed by all the family, you get to choose the speed you want to go at, the challenge is to navigate round a course accurately, sometimes walking is faster than running.
We run over 20 events per year, many in local parks like Bramhall, we maintain a series of permanent courses that can be used for practise, Bramhall and Bruntwood parks both have courses. We are in the process of producing a new detailed map of Torkington Park.
Our special aims for 2008 are to increase participation, and get people exercising more, through a series of introductory events in Lyme Park this April, and also to hold the first ever Stockport centre race in June. The autumn series has now started and features races in Stretford, Wythenshawe Park, Sale Water Park and the Manchester Schools Championships which will be run on a newly made map of Torkington Park on December 13th.
