Manchester & District Orienteering Club has members in South Manchester, Stockport, Macclesfield and Congleton, with the largest concentration being around the Hazel Grove/Bramhall/ Macclesfield area.

We have a wide range of ages and abilities, from 5-90 years and from beginners to members of the national junior team. Anyone can orienteer.

Orienteering is a sport that can be enjoyed by all the family, you get to choose the speed you want to go at, the challenge is to navigate round a course accurately, sometimes walking is faster than running.

We run over 20 events per year, many in local parks like Bramhall, we maintain a series of permanent courses that can be used for practise, Bramhall and Bruntwood parks both have courses. A new detailed map of Torkington Park has been finished and was first used in December last year for a schools championship. Permanent courses are ideal for practicing skills in your own time.

In 2008 our junior relay team won a national trophy, our aim is to retain it this year. More juniors are always welcome, either as families or individuals. 2008 also saw the first ever Stockport Town Race which attracted runners from across the country. We hold the national Clubmark accreditation.

Our special aims for 2009 are to continue to increase participation, and get people exercising more, through a series of introductory events in running from January to the Lyme Park series in April. All events have a range of courses for all abilities, advice is always freely given to beginners.

Get out there, meet new people and try something new!
