Title dreams evaporate

Poynton 92/7, Chester Boughton Hall 93/7. Chester BH won by three wickets

Chester Boughton Hall are now all but assured of their second successive title in The Tytherington Club Cheshire Women's League after a narrow victory here.

The difference between the two sides was the innings of Vicky Latham, who batted through the reply for an unbeaten 32, just the sort of innings Poynton had lacked.

92 in 40 overs batting first was by no means a big score, but only a few more would have posed a major challenge to Chester on a wearing pitch. Once again, crucially Poynton's Cheshire openers were dismissed cheaply, and only Anne Monaghan could reach 20.

Chester's attack displayed their usual consistency, the pick being reliable campaigners Suzi Walker (1-9 in a six over opening spell) and Annette Axon (2-11 in seven overs at the end of the innings).

Aside from Latham, the Chester batsmen struggled, and at 80-6 their nerves were starting to show, before some more important strokes from Latham calmed matters.

Hannah Gradwell took 3-18 in eight overs and Rebecca Platt 2-11 in 4.4 overs
