Poynton 73/6, Neston 12. Poynton won by 61 runs.
A superb all round display from Poynton captain Gillian Spragg destroyed Neston and ensured that her side will face arch rivals Chester Boughton Hall in the final of the Lovelane Knockout Cup at Davenham on Bank Holiday Monday August 25. This copuld yet be the first oif two cup finals that week for the Poynton side, who maintained their unbeaten record in 20 over cricket this year.
Spragg top scored with 22 retired in the Poynton Fire total of 73-6, but some tight bowling from Abbey Gore (2-12) and others kept the total down, and despite some important late runs from Anna Guest, Neston's target for victory was only seven more than they scored against Chester.
But things were going wrong for Neston almost straightaway in reply, the first player dismissed, off the fourth ball from Rebecca Platt, being the first of eight batsmen to be dismissed for ducks. The increasingly dependable trio of Spragg (4-3 in four overs), Molly Gilmartin (2-2) and Platt (2-4) had the job done in 8.3 overs as Neston made only 12. The Neston players were largely bewildered as Spragg spun the ball both ways on her way to what is a competition record bowling performance.
