Middlewood Road: New Speed Limits - Update
As reported last month, Cheshire County Council has agreed in principle for new and reduced speed limits on Middlewood Road. The proposal is for a limit of 40 mph for the section of Middlewood Road between Anson Road and Green Lane, then reducing to 30 mph for the length to Correction Brow. The rest of the road will still be derestricted. We would prefer a 30 mph limit along the full length of the road, but the government’s rules do not allow this at present.

The proposals will go out for public consultation early in September. There will then be a period of three weeks where people can submit comments for or against the proposals. If there are no objections, the County Council can then make the legal Order and install the new road signs. If there are any objections, these must be reported to the Local Joint Highways Committee for a final decision.
Assuming that all goes well and people support the proposals, we hope that the new speed limits will be in place within a few months.

Woodford Road: Replacement Street Lighting
During the last week of August, United Utilities scheduled work to replace overhead electricity cables along Woodford Road with new ones buried under the road. The poles holding the cables also supported the footway lights, which were operated by the Parish Council. Your Parish Councillors have taken this opportunity to replace the old pole mounted lights, which date from the 1960’s, with modern lamp standards, some in slightly changed locations. In approving this work, we were conscious of the need to try to maintain safety on the road.

Hockley Post Office
We would like to thank everyone who has written or e-mailed to oppose the planned closure of Hockley Post Office. Despite the efforts of many local people and Sir Nicholas Winterton, the Royal Mail have refused to keep this Post Office open.
