Cheadle Hulme 198/6 dec, Poynton 204/7. Poynton won by three wickets.
Derwin Thompson finished this game in spectacular style as with Poynton needing 19 from the last over, he duly hit the first four balls for six! This completed his innings of 66 not out from 56 deliveries. Without a significant innings under his belt so far this year, Thompson rolled back the years to produce something akin to his early Poynton performances.
For the first time in recent memory Poynton had gone 41 overs earlier in the day without taking a wicket, as Cheadle Hulme openers Adam Wilde (77) and Jordan Potts (46) added 133. Despite a quickfire 33 not out from Max Driscoll, Poynton recovered well in the closing overs, with part time bowler Damian Stringer bagging five wickets.
Ewan McCray (3-46 in 18 overs) caused his usual problems for Poynton in reply, and despite 66 from Brian Kingham, Poynton were always slightly behind where they would have wished to be in their chase. 82 were required from the final 10 overs, and a number of pinch hitters came and went without success. But things finally clicked, with Simon Dunn hitting some important boundaries off McCray, before Thompson's final flourish.
