Chester Boughton Hall Deemons 101-3, Poynton Fire 43-9. Chester won by 58 runs
Neither the ladies nor over 40s teams could bring a trophy back to Poynton on the club’s ‘Super Monday’. At Davenham, league champions Chester Boughton Hall clinched the second leg of a possible Cheshire women’s cricket treble with a superb performance in the Lovelane Knockout Cup Final.
Seven different Chester bowlers all produced an exemplary display of line and length, and captain Ali Cutler even had the luxury of more quality bowling options in her side which she did not need to use.
Lauren Griffiths and Cutler both made 20 runs before retiring in the first innings. Much of the damage was done as Chester scored 45 in the first seven overs on their way to 101-3, a very demanding target on the slow, low surface.
Jennie Kitzinger’s 19 was the only double figure score in reply, after which Poynton subsided. The second innings was all about the remarkable figures of Lorna Thomas (2-2 in four overs) and Annette Axon (2-3 in four overs), as Poynton closed on 43-9.
* At Upton, Poynton’s golden oldies Legends team lost the semi final of their play-offs to Irby. After scoring so many runs all season, Poynton reached only 88 in 20 overs here, a total comfortably passed by the Wirral side who duly took their place in the final which followed immediately afterwards.
