Poynton Bids for Funds

Local Conservative councillors are leading a bid to win Poynton part of a £5million fund to improve local services. Howard Murray, Joan Sewart and Roger West drew up a bid which won Poynton a place with six other large villages and small towns in the final stages of the Market Towns Initiative. Cheshire will now appoint consultants to see how each area could use the funding to help boost trade, tourism, and transport facilities. It is hoped that the study will be finished by the end of December 2008.

Vernon Infant School

Earlier this year, Vernon Infant and Junior Schools merged to form the Vernon Primary School. Now, Cheshire County Council are drawing up plans to redevelop the Infants School site on Bulkeley Road as Extra Care accommodation. This will provide sheltered housing for older people. The council is also planning new buildings for the Primary School on the Junior School site. A public consultation is planned for October.

Your local councillors will be scrutinising these plans carefully. It is essential that the Vernon Primary School is fully protected, the playing fields remain as open space and any development does not worsen traffic problems in the area.

Protect Your Right to Vote

Macclesfield Borough Council is sending out the forms to compile next year's electoral register. Only people on the list can vote, which is particularly important as there will be European Elections in 2009, and there could be a General Election. If your details are unchanged, this can be confirmed by telephone, online, or by posting the form to the Borough Council (a freepost envelope is provided). If there are any changes, the completed form must be returned to the Council.

If you have not received a form by 22 September, please contact the Borough Council’s Electoral Services helpline on 01625 504226.

Middlewood Road - Proposed Speed Limit
Cheshire County Council is currently seeking people's views on the proposed lower speed limits on Middlewood Road. If approved, there will be a 40 mph limit on Middlewood Road between the junctions with Anson Road and Green Lane, and then a 30 mph limit from there to Correction Brow. A 30 mph limit will also be introduced on Pool House Road, Hilton Road, Derbyshire Road and Melrose Crescent.

If you have any comments on the proposed speed limits, please write to Mr P Kenyon, Cheshire County Council, Area Highways Office, London Road, Lyme Green, Macclesfield, Cheshire, SK11 0JX by 24th September 2008.
