POYNTON CRICKET CLUB PRESS RELEASE

Turner and Platt retain Player of the Year awards

Poynton Cricket Club held a well-attended end of season presentation evening at the club on Saturday.

For the second year running Simon Turner was named 1st XI Player of the Year after a season where he took 52 wickets and bowled several spectacular matchwinning spells.

Also retaining her title was Ladies Player of the Year Rebecca Platt, the leading wicket taker in their runners-up finish in both the league and knockout cup.

Other Players of the Year were Mark Coram (2nd XI), Joe Hopkins (3rd XI) and Derwin Thompson (Over 40s).

Other winners were retiring first team captain Steve Mobley, who was named Clubman of the Year, Danny Palmer and Tom Berzins who were joint Young Players of the Year, and Paul Gould. While Gould plays for the Poynton 1st XI, he was awarded the Roger Ellis trophy for non-playing contributions to the club in recognition of his work in generating sponsorship income.
