Parents at Vernon Primary School have been taking part in a 6 week course, ‘Helping your child with Maths’, which is run by Cheshire Family Learning. The sessions are aimed at Reception and Year 1 parents. The programme includes a discussion with the School’s Maths subject leader, Julie Russell, and observation of activities in all Key Stage 1 year groups.
Joanne Glimmerveen, Headteacher at the Poynton school said “The course is designed to provide an insight into how children develop their Maths skills and how parents and carers can support them. The course leads to a qualification in adult learning and is also a sociable way to meet other parents and carers, and share ideas and concerns. We have run similar workshops over previous years and they always prove to be a huge success.”
Mrs Glimmerveen added “We also recently held a Numeracy Evening for parents and carers where the Cheshire Numeracy Adviser came into School to talk about Mathematics across Key Stage 2. This proved to be both enjoyable and informative.”
