Poynton Royal British Legion Concert Band is a community band, formed in the 1970’s as the Poynton Centre Military Band and comprises around 30 talented musicians of all ages.
Musical Director, Captain (retired) Keith Hatton, is a highly qualified and tallented musician. In the 1970's he served with the Regimental Band of the Irish Guards, he is an Associate of the Royal College of Music and Fellow of Trinity College of Music, London. In the 1980's he graduated from the Royal Military School of Music Kneller Hall, to become Bandmaster to the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment and later Director of Music of the King's Division Normandy Band and Drums Company Commander at the Infantry Training Centre Catterick. Since leaving the Forces, Keith has served as Director of Music of Greater Manchester Police Band, the Lancashire Artillery Volunteers' TA Band and Conductor of Blackpool Symphony Orchestra.
Band rehearsals take place at Poynton Royal British Legion Club, Georges Road West, Poynton every Wednesday from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. The Band plays around 12 Concerts per year in the Poynton/Macclesfield area. There are currently vacancies in trumpet, clarinet, saxaphone, oboe and percussion sections for players of a suitable standard.
The Band's programme for 2010 includes concerts at Poynton Civic Hall on Sunday 6th June and Sunday 5th December.
