On 2nd December a group of Year 5 and 6 children from Vernon Primary School made the journey from Poynton to the Manchester Evening News Arena, to take part in the Young Voices concert. It proved to be an amazing experience for all the children, parents and staff that attended.
The Vernon children sang numerous songs that they had learnt over recent weeks and also worked alongside some fantastic performers. The children sang with Keith Sample, who has recently finished touring in America with one of the biggest Indie bands in the world, 7th Heaven. They also sang with Summer, who is a favourite in the classical charts, and they admired and enjoyed working with 12 year old In-Cha, who is an amazing violinist. The children also took part in a Dance workshop.
All monies raised at the event went to CLIC Sargent (a charity that supports children with Cancer) and also Great Ormond Street Hospital. The children donated a tin of food each to the Manchester Homeless.
Miss McNiece, a Year 6 teacher at the Poynton school who runs an after school singing group, said “The event was a wonderful experience for all our children. We are extremely proud of them for working so hard in the build up to the concert. The smiles on their faces said it all as they sang and danced throughout the event.”
Year 6 pupil Alana Parker said "I loved going and will always remember doing this, it was amazing. We are very proud of what we did for charity."
Miss McNiece added "The atmosphere was vibrant and it was breathtaking to see the reaction of the children as they realised that they were to take part in such a big event. They all became confident performers who looked like stars! They should all be very proud of themselves."
