Vernon Pupils Focus on World War II

Year 6 pupils at Vernon Primary School recently visited the Stockport Air Raid Shelter and the Anne Frank exhibition at Stockport Art Gallery.

Miss Teresa Cross, a Year 6 teacher at the Poynton school, explained “The visit supports our inspiring topic this term of World War II.  All the children and staff dressed the part as evacuees, land girls and even a spy, to really understand what life must have been like for people during World War II.”

Some of the pupils gave their account of the visit.  Reece Jennings said “Singing the songs was good fun, especially the actions”, Elliot Preston added “Going through the tunnels was great fun” and Charlie Jerdin was brave enough to admit “It was scary when it went dark’.

Miss Cross continued “The children asked wonderful questions to really develop their understanding.  All the children behaved beautifully and it proved to be a wonderfully informative and enjoyable day.”

In the role of evacuees, the children take time out for lunch
