Pixies Cheer at Vernon

Pupils at Poynton’s Vernon Primary School have numerous extra curricular activities to choose from.  These take place before school, during the lunch time break and after school and they include Gymnastics, Drama, French, Chess, Cookery, Eco, Line Dancing and a Singing group.

One club which is proving to be extremely popular is Pixies Cheer cheerleading group that meet every Monday after school.

Year 3 pupil Katherine Hickson attends the club and said “Cheerleading is lots of fun because we do different routines with dances and stunts.  My favourite stunt is Cats Cradle because I get flipped backwards and forwards and it’s a bit like gymnastics.  The coaches are really good fun and choose funny music for all our routines.  It is nice to be in a club with different year groups. The Year 6s help us to stay steady when I’m up in the air and they help us learn new dance steps.”

Mrs Joanne Glimmerveen, Head teacher at the school, said “The cheerleading club has proved to be an enormous success.  We encourage our children to enjoy a healthy lifestyle and be active, and I am delighted with the children’s response.”

Similar sessions are run at other local schools in Poynton, Adlington and Disley.  Pixies Cheer can be contacted on 0785 290 3909.
