Parish Council: Good News
The Poynton Parish Council budget for 2009 has now been agreed, and we are pleased to report that the part of the Council Tax that goes to the Parish Council will stay the same as for the previous two years. After allowing for inflation the real cost has fallen, but with an increase in services.
This is due both to increases in efficiency, and the the successful campaign by Poynton’s Conservative councillors to end the “double taxation” system, which means that Poynton no longer has to subsidise some services in areas that do not have a parish council.
Improved services will include an Operations Officer, whose job is to ensure that the Poynton’s public spaces and environment are in a good state. There will also be increased hours for a Youth Co-ordinator, who works with young people. The village will continue to benefit from four Police Community Support Officers (PCSO’s), who are partly funded by the Parish Council and work only in Poynton.
Clumber Road and Fountain Place
While the recent resurfacing of the one way section of Clumber Road has been a great improvement, we have asked Cheshire Highways to ensure the work is completed properly. Some further work is required, especially at the junction with Orchard Close, and we understand this should be dealt with in January.
Local councillors Howard Murray and Roger West are pushing United Utilities to ensure that the electrical supplies around Fountain Place are fully repaired soon. Power cuts caused serious problems for local traders, and we understand that more work is needed to make a permanent repair.
