Year 3 pupils at Poynton’s Vernon Primary School recently went on a one night residential visit to Burwardsley Outdoor Education Centre in Chester.
Head teacher, Mrs Joanne Glimmerveen, said “The Centre is an educational base set in acres of countryside, with excellent facilities. The visit supported and enhanced the curriculum and provided an opportunity for the children to create closer bonds, develop social skills and allowed the children to shine out of the classroom environment.”
The children enjoyed a walk on nearby Willow Hill, took part in Art and Literacy sessions and participated in an instructor lead session on den building. In the evening they all enjoyed collecting wood for a campfire and ate toasted marshmallows!
Pupil, Peter Chignell said “The boys had to make their own beds and put their duvet covers on, but the girls only had to put their pillowcases on!” Peter added “We wrote shape poetry about Jungle animals and made Jungle collages with leaves and sticks that we collected. The best bit was a walk into the woods where we built a special den for a Jungle explorer. It was a competition, but my team didn’t win because it had holes in the roof and the rain could have come in.”
