As part of their topic on China, the Year 1 children at Vernon Primary School recently visited The Chinese Arts Centre in Manchester.
The children had the opportunity to look at Chinese artefacts, work with a Chinese artist, observe a Chinese Dragon, have a go at Tai Chi and then sketch each other in different Tai Chi positions! On their return journey, the coach took the children through China Town where they were able see an array of Chinese Restaurants and the Chinese Arch.
Joanne Glimmerveen, Headteacher at the Poynton school, said “The visit proved to be an exciting and stimulating experience for the children and brought their current topic to life, which the children found fascinating!”
Pupil Rory Kinrade said “We had a great time. We looked at Chinese Dragon which had a beard and two green eyes. It was funny! We bought something at the shop and then we had a go at Chinese cymbals, it was fun! The grown-ups tasted Chinese tea, which was delicious, and we met Mary Tang, a Chinese artist.”
