Commodores recent Events
On Sunday, 29th November Poynton Commodores Drum Corps took part in the Northern Auditions of ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ at the GMEX in Manchester. Whilst waiting to perform, the drums and trumpets were a constant source of entertainment for everyone present. Following that, they received confirmation that they passed the audition and, on Saturday 23rd Jan performed live at the Opera House, Manchester, for the T V judges. The members had rehearsed a special mini marching show for this unique occasion and were hoping to take a few friends and supporters along to give them a cheer.
Unfortunately, the Corps did not get through this Audition which began to look very obvious before they even started when Simon Cowell sat there yawning his head off at the youngsters – manners Simon! They started their marching show to which Mr Cowell very quickly ‘Buzzed in’ and commented that he didn’t understand what all the ‘Moving About’ (i.e. Marching) was for? And if Simon doesn’t understand well, you’ve got no chance. To show they weren’t despondent, the drummers of the Corps lined up and played a Drum Cadence for the crowds in the busy road outside the theatre, much to the delight of the appreciative crowds.
Following this, the Corps took part in a joint concert with Bradshaw Hall Primary School, Cheadle Hulme, on Tuesday 26th January. They hoped to demonstrate to pupils and parents what they can do and to finish off a very entertaining and successful evening the Commodores and pupils from the school combined to perform a joint number called ‘Tusk’ for everyone present.
The Commodores are now recruiting new members, of all ages, for 2010 and can arrange workshops for schools or Groups. The Commodores is now an Open Age group with parents as well as youngsters performing with the Corps. We are particularly hoping to recruit a couple of young percussionists, around the teenage age group, to join our Front Ensemble. Rehearsals are at Poynton High School, Tuesday evenings, 6:30 to 8:00 for Juniors, under 13 and 7:00 to 9:30 for the Seniors/Open age section.
