David Rutley, Conservative candidate for Macclesfield at the next General Election, is holding an Open Meeting in Poynton. The meeting will start at 7.30 pm on Tuesday 9th March at the Civic Hall. There will be a short talk, followed by questions. Please attend – admission is free.

David frequently visits Poynton, and is holding regular meetings with local people to understand their concerns. Please contact Howard Murray on 077 3971 6111 if you wish to attend and speak to David, or if you are the leader of an organisation here in Poynton and would like him to speak to your members and take questions.

390 Bus Service Improved
Cheshire East councillor Roger West and Poynton Town Council took action when changes last year to the 390 bus service caused problems for local people. The 390 bus runs from Bramhall to Poynton and then onto Stockport. It is particularly useful for residents living near Chester Road and on the Birds Estate. An extra return service from Stockport has now been added, allowing people to spend longer in Stockport town centre.

The service is subsidised from the Council Tax by Cheshire East Council and Greater Manchester Transport. Please use it – don’t lose it.

Postal and Proxy Votes
If you would like a postal or proxy vote for the General Election, please contact Cheshire East Council on 0300 123 5500, or e-mail electoral.information@cheshireeast.gov.uk.

Highways News

The recent bad weather has damaged many road surfaces. Cheshire East Council have asked residents to report any potholes to them so they can be repaired.  Please report potholes to Cheshire East Council on 0300 123 5500 or online by going to cheshireeast.gov.uk and clicking on “Report a Highway Fault”. Potholes can also be reported at Poynton Civic Hall (872238).

During the recent cold weather, Cheshire East’s Highways Staff managed to grit over 40 per cent of roads, including all the main roads in Poynton. This is better than the Government’s targets, which are to treat only A and B roads and minor roads that go to hospitals, fire stations and other important sites. If Cheshire East had followed the Government’s guidelines, then Park Lane, Dickens Lane, Clumber Road and Bulkeley Road would not have been gritted. As an emergency measure, Poynton Town Council also bought grit and treated some difficult areas and pavements.

Litter Pick

Poynton Town Council is organising the Community Litter Pick, which takes place each Spring. This year’s event has been arranged provisionally for Saturday 27th March. Please come along and help fight litter and improve the local environment.
