Alsager 34, Poynton 35/0. Poynton won by ten wickets.
After a 4.30 pm finish the previous week, this Poynton demolition job was over by 3.25 pm as Alsager, who have resigned from the league for next season, looked like a side with nothing to play for. This win takes Poynton to fourth in the table – they still believe they can win promotion.
Antonio Mayers struck in the first over, and although Tom Blackwood hit 15 of the first 19 runs, wickets never ever looked far away. With the score on 19, four more wickets fell, including a triple wicket maiden to Simon Turner who was swinging the ball prodigiously.
It was a similar story for the rest of the innings as five failed to trouble the scorers, and Poynton's accuracy was demonstrated by the fact that so many of the wickets were bowled. Alsager lasted only 23.4 overs, with Simon Turner bagging fantastic figures of 7-14, the club’s best return of the season. Mayers with 3-17 was the only other bowler used, and this opening pair plus Jamie Maltman – not needed to bowl here - now have a combined total of 100 wickets for the season.
6.4 overs and 23 minutes was all that was required for the reply, as some fine strokes from Paul Gould and Damian Stringer completed the day's work.
