My favourite threads on the forum

One of my earlier posts was regarding unenforceable speed limits. Mainly that when they reduced the speed limit on part of London Road North from 40 to 30, they didn't remove the 40 signs on the side roads. By no means the first (or last!) instance of government incompetence to have been discussed on the forum. I also mentioned the lack of 30 signs at the entrance to Meadway.

According to "Mike", I was wrong about Meadway:

"Meadway is an estate with houses on either side and therefore the limit is 30mph. All drivers are expected to know this and a 30 sign is rarely, if ever placed on an estate road directly off a 40mph main road."

In due course the redundant 40 signs on Lower Park Drive and Vicarage Lane were removed, but I wouldn't want to claim any credit for that! It was another 4 years before they put the (required by law) 30 signs at the entrance to Meadway, but apparently this needed to be a two phase procedure extending over two years. In the long interval between erecting the posts and adding 30 signs to them, somebody drove into one of the posts and damaged it!

My all time favourite thread (and also according to Poyntonion, one of the funniest threads she had read in any forum), has to be the one about "Youths in Poynton", notably hanging around outside the Co-op. According to "chavist", they were "chavs", and that caused a flurry of posts, many of which required translation. Here are some examples:

From "young youth": "u all just need to exept gthere is no where else 4 us 2 go cuz no1 will take the tym or effort to make or set up anything 4 us thasts y we hang round outside late shop. so chil out we dnt cause ne truble we just sit there"

From "George": "hittin people wiv bats xxx is that about!! ur mum is obviously blind we aint dun nefin lyk dat! n leave ya name n we wil hit u wiv a xxxxx bat xxxxx!"

And from "12345", "wt r all u goin on bout most of the fings ya sayin r made up!!!!!! u say we liein think bout wt ya sayin b4 ya say it n dont make it up inabizzle"

A definition for the "word" inabizzle" was kindly provided for a puzzled poster: " 'inabizzle' translated is slang for 'in a bit' which again is slang for 'see you later'."

Eventually the thread rather got out of control, and having had to edit obscenities out of the last three posts, it was finally closed. Nowadays you have to register to post in the forums, so it's unlikely that we will see these sorts of colourful posts again.

Next time I plan to look at my encounters with Cheshire County Council, some of which I've raised in the forum. On second thoughts, I think I'll talk about two certain supermarkets...
