Poynton 131/8 dec v Upton. Match abandoned.
For once the weather on Saturday was worse on the Wirral than in the Macclesfield area, and unfortunately this rare event coincided with one of Poynton's three visits of the year to West Cheshire, and their game at Upton was unable to be completed, unlike four other games in the division.
Following heavy rain just after Poynton arrived at the ground, hard work by the home side allowed a bare mnimum 60 overs game to start at the latest possible start time of 3.45 pm. Poynton's luck also didn't extend to the toss, being put into bat left them a very tall order to take 10 Upton wickets to win in such a short time.
With such a reduced time to bat, attacking play was always going to be the order of the day, and three Poynton batsmen's attacking efforts paid off and provided some decent entertainment. Damian Stringer peppered the leg side boundary in his 29 from 40 balls, Brian Kingham hit three sixes over the short straight boundary in his 33 off 37, and Simon Dunn hit 30 at a run a ball, including one six but also some excellent running between the wickets in partnership with Steve Douglas.
Poynton closed their innings at the halfway mark on 131-8, but before Upton could start their reply, the heavens opened again and the ground was soon covered in large puddles.
Poynton’s second team enjoyed better weather at home to Chester Boughton Hall but lost by two wickets in a high scoring contest.
