Poynton 214, Timperley 155. Poynton won by 59 runs.
At 149-4 in reply with 14 overs remaining, Timperley were looking good for victory, or at least a close finish looked on the cards. Poynton had visibly gone flat in the field, and Ryan Edwards looked in excellent form with the bat.
Typical of the inconsistencies of Poynton's season, half an hour later they were celebrating victory as their overseas player Antonio Mayers and others routed the Timperley lower order, with the last six wickets falling for six runs. First Mayers trapped Edwards in front for 55, and his fire and agression then accounted for two more Timperley players in the same over. Jamie Maltman then got in on the wicket taking act, followed by Mayers' final victim, then Simon Turner ended the game in spectacular fashion by sending the off bail most of the way back to the boundary.
His return of 6-71 completed Mayers' best all round show of the season. A dominant display of pulling and driving took him to 74 from 68 deliveries, with 14 fours and a six, before beconing one of four victims of Edwards. He found excellent support from Damian Stringer, who made 41 in a stand of 83, and after Mayers had departed the momentum was kept up by Chris Clark who hit 31 from 35 balls in his maiden first team appearance of the year.
This result keeps Poynton in with a glimmer of hope as regards promotion, but the dream will end for certain if second placed Oxton win either of their remaining games.
