Recycling: New Facility in Poynton

Poynton now has a new recycling facility. Cardboard packaging of the tetrapak type, used for fruit juice, soup and milk, can now be recycled at the Poynton Civic Hall car park. If possible, please rinse the containers out with your washing up (this helps to avoid wasps) and flatten them before recycling. Local Cllr Roger West argued successfully for Poynton to be one of the first places across the Borough to have this new recycling service. Tetrapaks can also be recycled at Handforth Dean, by the petrol station.

You can now recycle glass, paper, cans, plastic bottles, old clothes and tetrapaks at the Civic Hall, and the Anson Road site also takes cardboard, wood, oil and domestic batteries.

Ambulances: On Time?

Local councillor John Barber is concerned at statistics issued by the North West Ambulance Service. These show that a disproportionate number of the ambulances sent to Poynton in response to 999 calls take longer than the targets set by the NHS. One explanation is the high degree of congestion on local roads, which often slows ambulances sent from Macclesfield, Wilmslow or Stockport.

This clearly increases the risk to vulnerable patients. While we recognise the vital role played by the volunteer First Responders, we believe that Poynton should not receive a poorer ambulance service that other areas.

We have written to Sir Nicholas Winterton MP, asking him to pursue this matter with the North West Ambulance Service.

Why Not Join Us?

Poynton Conservatives fight for Poynton on many fronts: defending the Green Belt, recycling, and better health care. If you would like to help our work for Poynton, please contact local councillor Roger West on 876007 for an informal discussion, or just come along to our next meeting. This will be on Tuesday 9th October 2007, in the Vernon Room at Poynton Civic Hall, starting at 8 pm – you will be very welcome.
