The WI Committee were up at the crack of dawn arranging & setting the tables in the cosy main room at Middlewood House. The room had been decorated by the men of Middlewood House Committee for the benefit of anyone who hired it and it looked very inviting, especially as the coal fire had been lit.
Members were asked not to arrive before 12-30 for lunch at 1pm but they were all there on the dot partaking of the sherry and nibbles and awaiting the lunch to be served by a local caterer. And a delightful meal was had by all.
Now the tables were tidied away and the real fun began. Soon the smiles were turning into laughter as the ladies of the committee entertained us with poems, sketches, and songs, all accompanied by one of our talented members, on the piano. All inhibitions were put aside as the cast rode white dobby horses, stood in the middle of a meadow disguised as a tree, or flew around the room pretending to be butterflies.
The afternoon was brought to an end by carols, a cup of tea and a mince pie made by another kind member, and they were scrumptious.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to ALL, and if you feel like joining us, our next meeting will be on January 30th at Middlewood House, Prince Road. off Carleton Road, Higher Poynton. Visitors welcome.
