Celebrating the End of an Era

Helen Marston
Dec 29, 2007

Before the end of term the children at the Vernon Infant School in Poynton took part in a morning of celebration. The special celebration was held to mark the end of an era as the Vernon Infant and Junior schools amalgamate for the start of the new term in January, to become Vernon Primary School.

Head at the Infant school and Headteacher Designate for Vernon Primary School, Joanne Glimmerveen, said “We wanted the children to be able to celebrate our school and the end of an era.  Parents and grandparents shared in the celebrations, and worked with the children to make some fantastic souvenirs of their time at the Infant school.”

The children took part in a variety of activity sessions to make souvenirs such as friendship keyrings, watercolour paintings of the school buildings, stained glass effect Vernon crests, bookmarks and painted portrait tiles.

Mrs Glimmerveen added “I hope that the children look back on their souvenirs with fond memories.  As we move to amalgamation we are all excited about the new beginning and looking ahead with much enthusiasm.”
