Good News at Deva Close Playing Fields
Following a long campaign by local councillor Gabor Bartos, major improvements to the drainage at the Deva Close playing fields are planned for later this year. Gabor has persuaded Macclesfield Borough Council’s Leisure Department to secure funding for new field drains, so improving the condition of the football pitches.
New Footbridge Planned
Poynton Parish Council is working with Cheshire County Council to try and get a new footbridge installed over Poynton Brook. Many people walk from Copperfield Road to work on the Industrial Estate, but there is no proper bridge over the stream. Providing new and safer routes to work may help persuade some people to walk or cycle, rather than drive.
Local Government Reorganisation: A decision
The Government has finally agreed the future shape of local councils in this area. They are to abolish Cheshire County and Macclesfield Borough Councils, and replace them with a single “unitary” council. This will run all the major services, including education, social services, roads, planning and refuse collection.
The new Council will be called Cheshire East, and includes all of the existing Macclesfield, Congleton and Crewe council areas. Cheshire East will cover 450 square miles, and have a population of 355,600. There will be 81 councillors, of which three will represent Poynton.
Poynton Parish Council will stay as at present. However, it may be possible for the Parish Council to take over some services, possibly including street cleaning and road maintenance
