At this months meeting our members were joined by our guests from the North Cheshire Cruising Club who were looking forward to a first class tasting by Helen from TheWine rack and we were not disappointed. It was the usual format of three white and three red wines. The first white was a Selini Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand which was a pale, clear colour with a typical gooseberry nose with a fruity, long lasting finish, an excellent wine to start. The second white was an Australian Chardonnay, a pale gold colour with a pineapple nose and a slight oakiness on the finish. The last white was again from Australia, Tahbilk was the name, made from the Marsanne grape. An almost gold colour was followed by a fruit gum nose and long lasting fruity finish.
The first of the reds was from Australia. Pillar Box Red was the name which was a very deep red followed by wine gums on the nose a large dose of tannin on the taste, predominately made from the Shiraz grape but tasted more like a Cabernet. The next red was a Baron de Ley, a Spanish Rioja, which was slight brown in colour with a vanilla nose and loads of tannins on the finish, a typical Rioja. The last weine of the evening was another Australian, Zantes Footsteps. A very dark red colour with rubber on the nose and a long lasting high tannin finish.
Everybody showed their appreciation at the end of the evening in what was a very good tasting. Many thanks to Helen.
Poynton Wine Circle, which was Poynton Amateur Winemakers Circle, is now, more of a social club and tasting wine is the predominant theme of each meeting, even though some of us still make wine. There are also other beverages that are to tasted during this years programme.
Next month is a tasting of Italian wines by our very own Peter Waring, anybodt wishing to attend will be very welcome.
