Poynton Ladies 145-6, Oakmere Ladies 112. Poynton won by 33 runs.
Poynton ended their campaign by winning what was effectively the second place decider in The Tytherington Club Cheshire Women’s League, thus equalling the club’s previous best ever season, achieved by Sarah McCann’s 2006 side.
Poynton had work to do in the field after failing to push on from an excellent start with the bat. Kate Holt made 16 as she finished as the league’s leading run scorer, Hannah Gradwell made 37 and Megan Frost 29, but from 101-2, Poynton struggled for a while as Ruth Farrell claimed three wickets, before Coral Murphy gave the innings some late impetus.
Murphy then became one of six Poynton bowlers to take wickets. Both Oakmere openers departed in the first eight balls of the reply to the bowling of Katie Paterson and Gillian Spragg, the second via a fine wicketkeeping catch from Holt. Oakmere continued to lose regular wickets, but some late entertainment came from Farrell who hit 35 from 48 deliveries batting at eight. She had single-handedly scored 21 of the 55 required by the last pair when she was dismissed.
Batting stars Gradwell (2-8) and Frost (2-10) were also the pick of the Poynton side with the ball. Very promising young spinner Molly Gilmartin took two further wickets.
* Poynton 1st XI were washed out at Bramhall. Despite a sunny afternoon the ground remained unfit for play after a week of rain. Poynton finish at Oxton and will be keen to complete the double over the Wirral side, who are already promoted and could be crowned champions on Saturday.
