More than 3,000 people turned up for this year's Brass & Beatles Extravaganza – Poynton Rotary Club's major fund raising event. And they were not disappointed.
The 'brass' side of the very varied programme came from Vernon Building Society Poynton Brass Band, and the top of the bill was The Backbeat Beatles, who were given an enthusiastic reception.
"They were at their very best – vocally and physically the image of the original Beatles.
"They entwined their musical skills with a typical Liverpool sense of humour that made them even more attractive to their admirers. The repeated calls for encores was a measure of how much they were appreciated."
Local radio presenter Jo Blakeway, recently returned from South Africa, professionally linked the acts together, as well as interviewing children from the audience.
While the total raised is not yet known, initial estimates place it around £17,000 – well exceeding the £15,000 distributed to local charities after last year's performance.
