Vernon Infant School pupils got on their bikes during national Walk to School week.

Each child received a diary to fill in, containing different activities for each day.  During the week the children were asked how they got to school, e.g. walking, bike or scooter.  The class with the most children who did not come to school by car received a small prize.  If children lived somewhere that required a car journey, they were encouraged to use the village’s Civic Hall car park and walk into school from there.  This counted as walking to school.

Joanne Glimmerveen, Headteacher at the school, said “we decided once again to take part in this initiative to encourage our children to enjoy a healthy lifestyle.   We hope that this will encourage the children to be more active and enjoy their journey to school, also learning key road safety skills on the way.  The scheme also helped to cut traffic congestion and ease parking problems.  I am absolutely delighted with the children’s response during the week.”
