The children at the Vernon Infant School in Poynton were delighted to share an afternoon’s lesson with their parents and grandparents, for a Design and Technology curriculum afternoon.
Each half term at Vernon Infants a curriculum session is held in school where parents are invited into their child’s class to see how a particular area of the National Curriculum is taught. In previous curriculum sessions, the focus has been on subjects such as History, P.E., Numeracy and Science.
The afternoon started with a talk from Sheena Prince, a Year 1 teacher and the Design and Technology subject leader, on how the subject is taught to children in Key Stage 1. Sarah Parker from Learning Through Landscapes also gave a presentation. Parents and grandparents then joined the children in the classroom for an hour of hands-on activities.
Headteacher, Joanne Glimmerveen, said “Our curriculum sessions have always proved to be extremely popular, as parents have a real desire to know how we teach the areas of the curriculum to the children. It was wonderful to see so many parents and grandparents sharing in the session and the children were absolutely thrilled to share their Design and Technology lesson with the grown ups!”
