This report and the aim and work of the youth engagement stream must be seen in the context of the national situation where we hear and see daily reports and incidents of a breakdown in society and family life.
British society is so busy chasing wealth and profits it is treating many of its children as ‘expendable’, the Archbishop of Canterbury has warned. Dr Williams voiced his concerns the same week that a comprehensive government enquiry found that primary schools increasingly represent the only havens in children’s lives. Speaking at a Kids Company conference, Dr Williams said our society seemed more willing to invest time and skill in increasing profits and possessions than the ‘nurturing of human beings’.
The results show themselves in violence, abuse of alcohol and other substances, anti-social behaviour, bullying, self-harm, depression and underachievement amongst children and young people.
To see how Poynton Parish Plan are attempting to tackle these (and other) issues, this link will open a Word Document http://www.poyntonscoops.co.uk/PYES.doc with the full report on youth issues, achievements, successes, areas of work, implementation and proposed future projects.
