Ladybrook Singers were formed in 1928 when local music teacher, Elsie Harrop formed ‘Ladybrook Ladies’ Choir’ (named after the stream running between Hazel Grove and Bramhall). The choir grew and began to win festivals and to sing further afield. In January 1939, the choir set sail on the RMS Montclare, for Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their tour finished in New York, having taken in ST. John, Quebec, Montreal, Kingstown, Hamilton, Niagara, Detroit and Chicago!
During the Second World War the choir entertained at army bases and RAF camps from Birmingham to the Lake District. The travelling continued as the choir went to sing in concerts from Lausanne to Cork and in many festivals including the International Eistedfodd at Llangollen
The choir enjoy singing closer to home now in concerts and festivals alike and will be celebrating their 80th Anniversary with a concert on 26th April 2008, 7.30pm at Norbury Parish Church, tickets cost £7.00 (Children half price).
So come and help us celebrate!
