An Overview of Beacon Counselling
Beacon is a community based registered charity comprising mainly of voluntary people who work for the benefit of the residents of Stockport and the surrounding area. Beacon was formed 23 years ago by local people committed to helping anyone with significant personal problems such as depression, bereavement, family and relationship problems, abuse and stress. Over subsequent years our services have grown and we now have:
· >60 volunteers comprising counsellors, receptionists, admin, and trustees
· 32 counsellors who work from 5 different venues in the Stockport area
· we offer over 2000 hours of counselling annually
· we helped over 330 adults in 2006 and over 200 students in schools
· 88% of our clients come to us from outside the Bramhall area
· and 4 of our counsellors work in 9 Stockport secondary schools
· Beacon also works with young people outside of schools from 2 community locations
