Traffic Chaos
PAT are concerned that the development of a Tesco supermarket on the Petrol Station and old cinema site would 'dramatically increase traffic congestion' (PAT leaflet) in and around Poynton.
The proposed site is only 250 yards from the busiest junction and pedestrian area in Poynton. PAT argues that the added traffic from shoppers, commercial vehicles and 38 tonne trucks will cause 'chaos..massive tail backs..and increased pollution levels'...(PAT leaflet), affecting health and creating gridlock.
Effect on Business in Poynton
One of the major concerns for PAT is the effect a Tesco supermarket will have on local business in Poynton. As the new store will sell everything except clothes, PAT believe local chemists, bakers, butchers, florists, newsagents, greengrocers and many other businesess will be unable to compete and therefore suffer.
'Tesco plan to create 150 new jobs by cmployment losses in the village would exceed this figure' (PAT leaflet).
The Loss of our Petrol Station
As the plans to build a Tesco in Poynton will remove the petrol station without replacing it, PATargue that people will have no choice but to go outside the village for their petrol - causing an unnecessary inconveinience.
Property Values
PAT beliebe that all these factors make it fair to say that the value of property around the site and indeed in Poynton itself will be affected.
Loss of a Unique Village
The unique and enviable location of Poynton with a friendly village feel whilst also the cultural life of a booming city make it desireable.
PAT argues that the development of a Tesco store in the middle of Poynton will ruin Poynton's individual identity that we, the residents, have worked hard to retain.
